Fast Friday’s Motorcycle Speedway
Auburn Ca.
Michael Kirby Story and Photos
Week four was another great night of speedway racing at Fast Friday’s Motorcycle Speedway in Auburn Ca. The weather in Placer County was warm in the foothills but by race time it was comfortable as racing fans settled in for another great night of speedway action.
Highlighting the evening along with a full program of racing, was round two of the Team Challenge. The Team Law Tigers were able to maintain their lead over Team IFC by 10 points after two rounds. Billy Janniro, Darren Armbruster and Russell Green all had first place finishes for Team Law Tigers earning three points each. Justin Almon, up from Southern California, chipped in two points with a second-place finish for Team Law Tigers.
Team IFC was kept out of first place finishes in the three heats, but Broc Nicol and Timmy Dion picked up second place finishes for Team IFC gathering two points each for their team. Daniel Faria, Greg Moore and Catherine Moore each had a third-place finish adding one point each.
The interesting aspect of the Team Challenge is that riders work together in pairs. They run three heats in each round helping each other as teammates instead of in traditional speedway races with a every man for himself racing mentality. The teams meet six times throughout the season accumulating points in each round and leading to a final showdown in the championship round on August 14. Riders enjoy the unique format, and the fans dig on seeing the racers work together blocking and helping each other to score points. It’s three points for a win, two points second place, one point for third and zero points for a fourth-place finish. It’s all scratch starts with a pair of riders from each team in each heat.
After the three heats and the dust settled Team Law Tigers finished the round with 11 points and Team IFC ended the round with seven points. Total after the second round and heading into round three is Team Law Tigers 23 to Team IFC’s 13 points. It looks like an uphill battle for Team IFC but the score can change dramatically with one good round and a little luck. Stay tuned to see how this team grudge match shapes up in the upcoming rounds.
Broc Nicol won the scratch main event, his third of the young 2026 season. Nicol has made all four of the main events and won three of the four. This week Nicol made it look easy with wins in his first heat race, semi-final and then with the win in the scratch main event.
In the main event he faced Justin Almon, up from So-Cal racing for the first time this season at Fast Fridays, Dan Faria and Russell Green. Nicol got an exceptional gate and led the entire race. Almon was tenacious, right on Nicol’s tail making hard charges but the current AMA National Speedway Championship used the skills that made him champ to finish with a win in the night’s finale. Almon was second, Green was third and Faria who had mechanical issues on the last lap pushed his bike over the finish line for fourth place.
Anthony Dion, part of the racing Dion family, picked up his first main event win of the season in the handicap main event. Dion races each night with his brother Timmy Dion in Division I and his father Tim Dion in the Support Class. Dion, currently rides off the zero line, had a fourth-place finish in his heat race, recovered with a first-place finish in his semi-final to advance to the handicap main event with a win. Dion led all the way, with Greg Moore, also off the zero line, in second place giving Dion a challenge for four laps of the six-lap race until Justin Almon passed into second place. That was the finishing order in the main event. Dion with the win, Almon in second and Moore finishing third. Dion might be looking to start on the 10-yard line going forward.
Marc Denniston, back racing at Fast Fridays after a two-year break, won the Support Division D-2 main event. Marc and his brother Sebe Denniston took a couple years off from speedway racing but are back at Fast Friday’s. Denniston was perfect with wins in his heats and the main event
It was Denniston’s first main event win of the season. Mike Newnham was second and Catherine Moore was third.
Cody Baugh also picked up his first win of the season in the Support D-3 main event. Sean McAndrew was second and Jeff Schoenstein was third. Baugh did not finish in his first heat race but recovered and finished first in his second heat race, then won the main event.
Wesley Rearick continues to turn in strong performances in the Youth 250cc D-1 division and won the main event his third in a row. He did have an aggressive challenge from his younger brother Riley Rearick in all three of his races including the main event. Riley Rearick gave him a real test in the main event but just could not catch his older brother before the finish line. Riley Rearick was second in the main event and Caden Cavrikas was third.
Leeann Emerson won her third and second in row main event in the Youth 250cc D-2 division. Emerson was first in her first heat race, second in her second heat race then first in the main event. Colton Cooper finished second and Baylee Evans-Seeley was third in the main event.
Mason Howell topped the Youth 150cc D-1 main event. Liam Falcon was second and Brady Wills was third. The main event win was his second so far this season. Chance Farrow took the Youth 150cc D-2 main event, his second of the season. Gavin Evans-Seeley was second and Ryder Faria was third. Luke Seeger was first in the Youth 150cc D-3 main event. Kaiden Boyd-Bews was presenting a serious challenge but fell in the pursuit on the last lap. Kaydence Craw was second and Mason Latham was third.
Next week it is Legends and Vintage Night at Fast Friday’s Motorcycle Speedway. Billy “The Bullet” Hamill will be honored for his racing accomplishments and riders on vintage speedway bikes will put on a throw-back racing exhibition.
