Week thirteen at Fast Friday’s Motorcycle Speedway and the championship season has begun. This week August 14 the Team Challenge wrapped up their six round challenge series with the final and championship round. Coming into the championship round the score was so close only one point separated these two very competitive teams. In fact, only one point separated the teams for the last two rounds.

The teams-Team Law Tigers and Team IFC (Integrated Financial Concepts) came into the final round with Team Law Tigers leading IFC 47-46. Team Challenge works with two pairs of riders riding in three heats-each pair on a different team. The riders work together to accumulate points by finishing order in the heats, blocking and aiding each other for the good of the team. Points are scored three points for a win, two points for second place and one point for third place and zip for fourth place.

Heat one was a tie; Brady Landon scored a win and three points for Team IFC and Team Law Tigers scored three points also with second place and third place finishes by Billy Janniro and Darren Armbruster. Heat one was a draw leaving the score 50-49 with the Law Tigers still leading. In heat two IFC again scored a win and three points behind an outstanding win by Wilbur Hancock. Team Law Tigers hung in there with three points behind Russell Green and Louie Mersaroli combining second and third place finishes. Still the score so close, Law Tigers still on top 53-52.

The entire series would be boiling down to one final race. Eighteen heat races in the series and one race would decide the championship, what a close exciting series. Rolling to the start line Team Law Tigers sent Antonio Coffman and Mike Newnham. Team IFC sent out Catherine Moore and Shawn Eldredge. Just a little pressure for these pairs.

Moore, out of the gate quick took a hard tumble in turn one and ended up on the dirt. After a few tense moments, attended to by track officials and EMT’s she slowly got to her feet, and a reserve bike was brought out and she was ready to go in the restart. Eldredge and Moore had complete control of the final heat and picked up first and second places for Team IFC. Eldredge in first place and Moore in second place for five points. Newnham took third and added one point for Team Law Tigers. The score ending this fantastic series 57-54 with Team IFC winning the championship.

Brady Landon picked up another scratch main event win, his fourth of the season. This young rider who just turned sixteen years-old, is really making an impact in division one, his first season on a 500cc bike. Landon was perfect in the scratch program winning his heat race, semi-final race and then the win in the night’s finale.

Landon faced Billy Janniro, Louie Mersaroli and Darren Armbruster in the main event. Out of the gate Janniro in the inside lane took the lead, with Landon out of lane four following at a couple of bike lengths back. Racing hard Landon was right on Janniro and ended up passing him with a lap to go. Janniro when just a little wide and left the door open for Mersaroli to pass and take second place. Landon finished first, Mersaroli was second, Armbruster was third and Janniro fourth.

Just a note, the first round of the 2026 AMA National Speedway Championship was last Saturday at Industry Hills Speedway in Southern California and Landon is sitting in second place with 22 points. Max Ruml leads the series after round one with 26 points and current AMA National Speedway champion Broc Nicol is in third place with 20 points. The second and final round will be held at Fast Fridays on September 19.

For the second week in a row and the third time this season Timmy Dion put it all together for a handicap main event win. Dion stumbled a little in his heat race with a fourth-place finish but recovered with a first-place finish in his semi-final race. Moved back 10-yards to the 20-yard line because of his win last week, Dion had little trouble getting out front and holding his position in the main event for the entire race. Darren Armbruster was in a solid second place but unable to pass Dion and Louie Mersaroli was in third place and that is how the race finished. Looks like Dion will be checking out the dirt for his start on the 30-yard line next week.

A consistent top three finisher in the Support Division D2, Antonio Coffman finally reached the winners podium with a main event win. Coffman was second place in his first heat race and second place in his second-place heat race. On to the main event Coffman trailed Brandon Hendrickson for most of the race until challenging hard and passing Hendrickson on the last lap-last turn for a stunning win near the finish line. Hendrickson was second and Marc Denniston was third.

Sean McAndrew won his third Support Division D3 main event. McAndrew won his two heat races and then the main event. McAndrew was in second place for most of the race and when Austin Brightwell made a small misstep McAndrew took advantage of and took first place near the finish line. Brightwell was second and Sebe Dennistion was third.

Jameson Hutchinson was again the fastest rider in the Youth 250cc D1 program. Hutchinson picked up his sixth main event win of the season. Hutchinson was perfect in the program winning every time he rolled onto the track. Wesley Rearick was second and Caden Cavrikas was third.

Persistence really pays off in speedway racing and Baylee Evans-Seeley proved this after hanging in there in the Youth 250cc D2 program all season long as she was finally able to climb to the top of the winners podium with a win in the main event, her first of the season. Leeann Emerson was second and Leala Farrow was third.

Mason Howell won the Youth 150cc D1 main event. Howell was in second place behind Logan Kerr for most of the race then passed him near the finish line for the win. Kerr was second and Zander Schroeder was third. Kaiden Boyd-Bews won the Youth 150cc D2 main event. Dexter was second and Chance Farrow was third. Kinsley Stephenson was first in the Youth 150cc D3 main event. The win was her first win of the season. William Bruce was second and Kaydence Craw was third.

Next week at Fast Friday’s the championship races continue with the Speedway Best Pairs Championship. Sure to be exciting racing on the tricky dirt oval. Just a note that it is also the last Friday night before Fast Friday’s moves to Saturday nights on August 29 to accommodate school schedules for the rest of the season.
