In week 14 at Fast Fridays Motorcycle Speedway championship racing is getting underway. Last week the Team Challenge wrapped up their six round series with their championship round. This week Fast Fridays brought the Speedways Best Pairs Championship to the tricky dirt oval in Auburn Ca.
For the second season in a row the pairs team of Broc Nicol and Wilbur Hancock took the championship scoring 46 points. In second place the pairs team of Russell Green and Chris Kerr came in with 35 points.
The teams raced in five rounds-15 heat races, two semi-finals heats then the final. The pairs scored points throughout the evening, four points for a win, three points for a second-place finish, two points for a third-place finish and zero points for a fourth-place finish. It was all scratch racing with each of the pairs teams racing against each other at least one time and the start positions switching in each heat race. At the end of the heat races the top scoring pairs moved to the semi-finals where winning and scoring more points moved them on to the final. The final heat was the two pairs of riders that won their semi-finals and adding points to their total to line up on the start line for the final. The team to score the most points after the final race could claim the 2026 Speedways Best Pairs Champions.
The highest scoring team at the end of the heat races was Broc Nicol and Wilbur Hancock. Nicol was perfect with five first place finishes and 20 points. Hancock brought 12 of his own to their total for 32 points. They squared off against Timmy Dion and Danny Faria who combined 23 points. In a perfect example of team racing working together out front of Faria and Dion, Nicol and Hancock combined for seven points to bring their total to 39 points with first and second-place finishes to move on to the main event.
In the second semi-final the second highest scoring team in the heats, Chris Kerr and Russell Green with 28 points faced off against young speedster Brady Landon and Bryan Yarrow who came into the second semi-final with 25 points. Yarrow fell in turn one and Landon won the race pulling four points but Kerr and Green finished second and third for five points to move on to the final with 33 points.
In the final, the two teams to gather the highest points for the night rolled up to the start line. Nicol and Hancock had the highest points so far and had the pick of lanes which they chose lane two and four. Nicol was in the far lane and Hancock in lane two. Kerr was in three and Green was on the pole. From the gate both Nicol and Hancock were in the lead, Nicol on the outside and Hancock inside, again working perfectly together with each other. Green and Kerr rode a great race but could not break through the line that Hancock and Nicol had established and they finished third and fourth. With a first-place finish for Hancock and a second-place finish for Nicol they finished with 46 points. Kerr and Green finished with 35 points for second-place in the championship.
Though the riders worked as a team, Nicol was the individual high scorer with 27 points. Landon was second with 23 points. Green finished with 20 points. It was a great night of racing showcasing how two riders working together selflessly could help each other to score points working toward a championship.
Along with the pairs championship Fast Fridays also ran a full program of Support Divisions, Youth Divisions and of course the ever-popular pee-wees also ran a few heats.
In the Support D2 Division Marc Denniston won the main event, It was Denniston’s third win of the season. Denniston had first and second-place finishes in his heat races to transfer to the main. Antonio Coffman was second and Catherine Moore was third in the main event. Sean McAndrew again won the Support D3 Division main event. The win was McAndrew’s fourth for the season and his second in a row. Sebe Denniston was second and Tim Dion was third. McAndrew had two second finishes in his heat races but was invincible in the main event with the win.
Jameson Hutchinson was the winner in the Youth 250cc D1 main event. Hutchinson has won eight Youth 250cc D1 main events this season. Wesley Rearick was second and Caden Cavrikas was third. Colton Cooper is on a run in the Youth 250cc D2 division winning another main event. The win was his third for the season. In a heated contest with Leeann Emerson since the beginning of the season Cooper has worked on his game and for the recent wins. Emerson was second and Baylee Evans-Seeley was third.
Logan Kerr won the Youth 150cc D1 main event, his first of the season. Kerr is another rider consistently working on his skills and it shows on the track. Kerr was second and first in his heats then won the main event. Kaiden Boyd-Bews was second and Mason Howell was third in the main event. Hank Hanaway won the Youth 150cc D2 main event. Gavin Evans-Seeley was second and Dexter Orlando was third in the main event. Kinsley Stephenson was first in the Youth 150cc D3 main event. The win was her second main event win in a row. William Bruce was second and Mason Latham was third.
Two important notes for next week at Fast Fridays. First and most important is that Fast Fridays shifts to Saturday nights beginning next Saturday to accommodate school schedules. Same start time just on Saturday nights instead of Friday nights for the rest of the season. Also, the Extreme Sidecars will return for the fourth round of their series. This not to be missed, these guys are just plain crazy on their three-wheeled 1000cc motorcycles.
