It was another great night of speedway racing at Fast Friday’s Motorcycle Speedway in Auburn Ca. Week 10 of the season included a complete program of Division I, Support Division, youth program competitions and the fifth round of the popular Team Challenge.

Brady Landon turned in an outstanding performance. Landon doubled-up this week winning the handicap main event and then later in the evening Landon won the scratch main event. This has only happened one other time this season when Broc Nicol accomplished this feat in week five. Landon also scored a win in the team challenge scoring three points Team Law Tigers. In only one race did Landon not take the checkered flag all evening.

The not quite sixteen-year-old Landon is in his first season riding on a 500cc motorcycle at Fast Friday’s after moving up from the Youth 250cc division last season where he was the AMA National Speedway Youth 250cc champion..

To say Landon is making a impact in Division I would be an understatement. At Fast Fridays in week seven of this season he won his first scratch main event and in week eight he picked up his first handicap main event win. This week, in week 10, he took double main event wins in both the scratch and handicap main events. The wins this week add to the growing speedway racing resume accomplishments the fifteen-year old is quickly building.

In the scratch main event Landon faced Billy Janniro, Broc Nicol and Wilbur Hancock. A crash in turn one took Janniro and Nicol to the ground. Janniro was unable to restart but Nicol rolled to the start line for the restart making it a three rider final. Landon got a good gate and led Nicol and Hancock to the finish line.

In the handicap main event Landon, who rides off the 30-yard line, qualified with first and a third-places finishes. Landon faced Nicol, Janniro, Hancock, Timmy Dion and Danny Faria. Hancock jumped out front from the gate followed closely by Landon. He passed Hancock by lap four, Nicol also passed Hancock and fell into second-place. Landon continued to lead to the finish line riding a flawless race. Nicol was second and Hancock was third.

In the fifth round of the six-round series Team Challenge The Law Tigers scored 10 points and Team IFC (Integrated Financial Concepts) scored 8 points. The Team Challenge is a three heat round where pairs of riders work together to score points for their respective teams. Riders score three points for a win, two points for a second-place finish, three points for a third place finish and zero for a fourth place finish. The points earned carry over to each new round.

Coming into round five the score was Team IFC leading by a slim margin over Team Law Tigers 38-37. Behind Billy Janniro and Brady Landon Team Law Tigers picked up two first-place finishes and six points. Louie Mersaroli added two points for a second place finish. Darren Armbruster and Mike Newnham each added a point with third-place finishes.

Catherine Moore scored three points for Team IFC along with second-place finishes by Broc Nicol and Shawn Eldridge adding two points each. Wilbur Hancock added one more point with a third-place finish. When the dust settled the score rested at Team Law Tigers 47 points and Team IFC 46 points. This sets the stage for a fantastic final round championship on August 14.

Catherine Moore, back from polishing her riding abilities in Europe for a few weeks, won Support Division D2 main event. The Fast Friday darling did not finish her first heat race because of mechanical problems and finished second in her second in her heat race. Moore got her bearing by the third race of the evening and won the main event. Moore trailed Brandon Hendrickson for most of the race waiting for a chance of passing which came in the last lap in turn three for the win. Hendrickson was second, and Marc Denniston was third.

Cody Baugh won the Support D3 main event. From the line, about 10-yards out, Jeff Schoenstein crashed causing a restart. Penalized to the 30-yard line for the mishap referee Steve Lucero restarted the race. Baugh took control of the restart and led the entire race to the finish line. Schoenstein recovered well and finished second and Sean McAndrews was third.

The Youth 150cc D1 main event was interesting with a three rider crash. Mason Howell led the race with Liam Falcon giving a serious challenge. In the third lap three riders, Brady Wills, Luke Seeger and Zander Schroeder all went down in turn three. Since the race was more than half run, referee Steve Lucero called the race. Howell was leading so he was declared the winner and Falcon got second place.

Ryder Faria picked up his second main event win in the Youth 150cc D2 main event, his second of the season. Hank Hanaway was second and Dexter Orlando was third. Kaiden Boyd-Bews was first in the Youth 150cc D3 main event, followed by Kaydence Craw in second and William Bruce in third.

Jameson Hutchinson took the Youth 250cc D1 main event, his fourth main event win of the season. Wesley Rearick, back racing after being gone for a few weeks gave Hutchinson a run for his money winning the first heat race. Hutchinson won the second heat race and then main event. Rearick was second and Justin Gist was third.

Leeann Emerson won the Youth 250cc D2 main event. Emerson won all her races then the main event. The win was her sixth so far this season and her third in a row. Baylee Evan-Seeley was second and Colton Cooper was third.

As far as the Fast Friday’s points race as of July 10 Broc Nicol leads Division I with 961 points, followed by Billy Janniro with 951 points and Darren Armbruster with 815 points. Brandon Hendrickson leads Division II with 362 points, Ray Holt Jr. has 360 points and Catherine Moore has 351 points. Cody Baugh leads Division III with 452 points followed by Sean McAndrews with 394 points, then Sebe Denniston has 377 points. All the divisions are very close.

Next week July 31, it’s Fast Friday’s Iron Man competition with the 25-lap main event. Riders push themselves and their machines to do things not meant to be done on speedway bikes. Battling fatigue and mechanical issues riders take on 25-laps instead six on the tricky dirt oval in Auburn. Only the toughest make it to the finish line in this unique race and can claim to be Fast Friday’s Iron Man.
