Fast Fridays Motorcycle Speedway moved to Saturday night this week to participate in Auburn California’s observance of our nations 250th anniversary. After a day of activities including a parade in downtown Auburn, speedway fans filled the Gold Country Fairgrounds McCann Stadium for a night of fantastic racing and patriotic activities. A giant American flag was carried out to the infield by the riders and held high while the Star-Spangled Banner was sung wonderfully by Lincoln Ca. resident Penelope Hagman to open the evening.
The racing began at 7:00pm an hour earlier then the regular racing start time with the second visit of the season by the Extreme Sidecars to Fast Fridays. The racing ending just in time for the fantastic fireworks display that the speedway fans could stay and enjoy.
Coming into week seven, young Brady Landon was hot off a championship performance in the FIM SGP3 Youth Speedway World Championships in Poland two weeks ago. Landon placed second in the world championship and gained more valuable racing experience at a top level of speedway racing.
Landon picked up his first main event win of the season in the scratch program winning the nights finale. In the world championship Landon competed on a 250cc speedway bike because he is not quite 16 years-old yet, but at Fast Fridays he bumped up to a 500cc bike and is very capable with the extra power.
Landon was first in his scratch heat race and second in his semi-final to advance to the main event. In the scratch main event Landon faced Darren Armbruster, Billy Janniro and Timmy Dion. Out of the gate all the riders bunched up-crowded in turn one, but Landon found a way out of the traffic jam first to take the lead which he held until the finish line. Timmy Dion was second, Armbruster was third and Janniro fourth. It was Landon’s first main event win of the season, but it will not be his last by any means, this young rider is someone to watch in the future.
Danny Faria took the handicap main event, also his first main event win of the season of the season. Faria was fourth in his handicap heat race and second in his semi-final heat race transferring to the main event pulling it together for the win. Having a great night, before winning the scratch main event, Brady Landon gave Faria a run for his money finishing second in the main event. Timmy Dion was third.
In the second appearance of the Extreme Sidecar Series at Fast Fridays, the Curry’s, Robert and Laurie, won the Extreme Sidecar main event. The experienced sidecar duo won four of the five heats the sidecars ran and placed second in the one they did not win. In the sidecar main event they led all the way from the start gate with the sidecar team of Wade Boyd and Eric Lindauer on them in second place from the start. The Curry’s hugged the inside of the track for the remaining laps and powered to the finish line for the win. Boyd and Lindauer were second, Matt Walters and Jonny Estrada were third.
The Extreme Sidecars are Fast Friday’s fan favorites will make five appearances at Fast Fridays this season including the AMA Extreme Sidecar National Championship on September 26.
Mike Newnham picked up his second main event win in a row in the Support D2 division. Mechanical problems kept Newnham from finishing his heat race and he finished first in his second heat race. In the main Newnham face a serious challenge from Antonio Coffman for most of the race including close to the finish line, but Coffman’s efforts fell short. Coffman was second and Brandon Hendrickson was third.
Cody Baugh picked up his second main event win in the Support D3 main event. Tim Dion was second- and first-time rider at Fast Fridays Austin Brightwell was third.
In the youth divisions Liam Falcon won the Youth 150cc D1 main event. Falcon and Mason Howell challenge each other each week and have done so since the beginning of the season. Howell has won the main event the last three meetings and Falcon were finally able to find a kink in his armor and pull off a win, his second of the season. Howell was second and Brady Wills was third.
Hank Hanaway found his way to the winner’s podium in the Youth 150cc D2 main event. The win was his first of the season after finishing second numerous times this season. Luke Seeger was second and Dexter Orlando was third. Kaiden Boyd-Bews was first in the Youth 150cc D3 main event for the third time this season. Boyd-Bews trailed Kaydence Craw for most of the race and made a swift move on the last lap to pass and took the checkered flag. Craw was second and Mason Latham was third.
Jameson Hutchinson was first in the 250cc D1 main event. The win was his fourth of the season. Hutchinson has missed two weeks of the season racing in Europe or his win ratio would be higher. Caden Cavrikas was second and Justin Gist was third.
Leeann Emerson won the Youth 250cc main event for the fifth time this season. She has won all but two main events in her division so far this season. Colton Cooper was second and Baylee Evans-Seeley was third.
It was fantastic night of racing and 4th of July celebration. The move to Saturday night might have thrown a curve ball to some people but the combination of excellent speedway racing and celebrating the 250th anniversary of our nation on the same night was spectacular.
Be sure not to miss next week Friday July 10 when the Team Challenge continues with round four along with speedway racing. The Law Tigers are holding onto a slim lead over Team IFC by just five points.
