Fast Friday’s Motorcycle Speedway
Auburn Ca.
Michael Kirby Story and Photos
It was another great night of speedway racing at Fast Fridays Motorcycle Speedway in Auburn California. The heat returned to the area with the first high temps of the summer but as race time neared the temperature at the Gold Country Fairgrounds was perfect for speedway racing.
Week four brought round two of the six round Team Challenge grudge racing match up. Entering the second round the score was tied at 9-9. The teams could not be closer because after the second round the score was still knotted at 18-18. For the Law Tigers Billy Janniro, Daniel Faria and Gregory Moore each scored wins and nine points for their team. For IFC (Integrated Financial Concepts) the road was a little more difficult needing three second place finishes by Darren Armbruster, Wilbur Hancock and Tisiah Prout, and three third place finishes by Broc Nicol, Catherine Moore and Chase Kangas to get their nine points for the tie.
The Team Challenge is different than individual racing being that pairs of riders in each of the three heats work together to win for the team sometimes sacrificing a personal win to help a teammate and the team with points. The points carry over throughout the season and the team with the most points after the final championship round on August 8 is the 2025 Team Challenge winner.
Broc Nicol proved to be the fastest man of the night picking up his second scratch main event of the season. Nicol and Billy Janniro are the only riders to win the scratch main event at Fast Fridays this season so far. Nicol won the first week and this week and Janniro won week two and week three. Out of lane four pushed up against the track fence as far as he could be, Nicol the current AMA National Speedway Champion, blasted a great start and was in the lead out of turn one and held the lead by two rider lengths until the finish line. Janniro looked to have a slight bike malfunction and losing precious seconds did not recover quick enough with enough time to catch Nicol. Russell Green was second; Timmy Dion was third and Janniro fourth in the night’s finale.
Wilbur Hancock picked up his first main event win of the season in the handicap program. Hancock travels to Auburn from Southern California each week along with Nicol to race at Fast Fridays. Hancock took the hard way to the main event placing second in his heat race, third in the semi-final to transfer to the handicap main event. Off the 10-yard line he outdistanced the heavier handicapped riders to hold on for the win. Darren Armbruster was second and Danny Faria was third.
Cody Aker again won the support main event, his third win this season, Aker has stood on the winners podium every week so far this season except for week three. Hunter Castillo who was last week’s support main event winner and is always looking for a mistake by Aker to pass him was second. Anthony Coffman, a consistent top three finisher in the support class was third.
In the youth divisions Jameson Hutchinson won his third Youth 250cc main event in a row. In the main event, Wesley Rearick took the lead and held on to it for the entire race until the final 30 yards when Hutchinson made his move and took the win. Rearick was second and Gracie Janniro was third. For those wondering, Janniro is Billy Janniro’s 15-year-old daughter and improving her racing skills each week.
Riley Rearick remained unbeaten in the Youth 150cc D1 program, picking up his fourth win of the season in the main event. Rearick stumbled a little this week when he uncharacteristically took a tumble falling and was unable to finish his first heat race. He recovered and was back fast winning his second heat race and then the Youth 150cc main event. Zander Schroeder was second and Brady Wills was third.
In the Youth 150cc D2 program it was Mason Howell taking the main event. It was his second main event win of the season. Gavin Evans-Seeley was second and Leeann Emerson was third. Dexter Orlando won the Youth 150cc D3 main event followed by Zeva Schroeder in second and William Bruce in third.
With a good turnout again in the Pee-Wee division with twenty or so of the little racers coming out to Fast Fridays for three heat races. It is always a joy to see these youngsters show up and give it their best on the racetrack. Some of these little guys will be the Division I riders of the future.
Next weeks look forward to Vintage and Legends night at Fast Fridays. A few of the riders will take to the track on vintage upright motor speedway bikes. Also, racing legend Sonny Nutter will be honored by Fast Fridays for his years of racing motorcycles and race cars. Nutter will be available at Fast Fridays next week to talk racing and sign autographs.
