Fast Friday’s Motorcycle Speedway
Auburn Ca.
Michael Kirby Story and Photos
Fast Friday’s Motorcycle Speedway followed up their opening night last week with another stellar night of first-class speedway motorcycle racing at the Gold Country Fairgrounds in Auburn Ca. Week two introduced team racing to the program with the first-round of the Team Challenge along with a full program of Division I, Support Division, 250cc and 150cc Youth Divisions and of course not to be forgotten crowd favorite Pee-Wees.
The Team Challenge is a season long grudge match between Team Law Tigers and Team IFC (Integrated Financial Concepts) as they meet six times through-out the season including a championship meet-up on August 14. The Challenge is different as the riders race as teammates working together in pairs to score points and help each other succeed rather then ride against each other. Working in pairs, one team of riders from each team race in three different scratch races, running interference, blocking for each other and helping their teammate to the finish line to score team points. Points accumulate through each round until championship round when the team with the most points wins the season Team Challenge.
In round one Team Law Tigers led by eleven-time AMA National Champion Billy Janniro scored 12 points. Points are scored three points for a win, two points for a second place finish, one point for a third place finish and zero for fourth place. Team Law Tigers scored three wins and nine points behind first place finishes by Janniro, Darren Armbruster and Russell Green. Brady Landon added two points with a second place finish and Antonio Coffman chipped in one point with a third place finish.
For Team IFC they scored 6 points but were not able to grab the checkered flag and a win in any of the three heats. Team ICF did score four points though with second place finishes by Catherine Moore and Broc Nicol. Daniel Faria and Wilbur Hancock added one point each with third place finishes. The score after round one was Team Law Tigers 12 and Team IFC 6. It is a long series though so look for Team IFC to bounce back as the challenge continues throughout the season. One good night can change everything for a team. Bragging rights are on the line.
Billy Janniro got into the winners circle this week with a first place finish in the scratch main event. Janniro was second in his first heat race, transferred to his semi-final heat and finished first to move on the the main. In the main event he lined up with Darren Armbruster, Broc Nicol, Brady Landon and Wilbur Hancock. Out of the gate Janniro had the lead with Nicol just behind him but in turn three Landon went down and was excluded necessitaing a restart. Almost a repeat of the first start, Janniro got the lead with a good gate. Nicol was right behind him doing his best to catch Janniro getting close maybe one bike length behind Janniro. But his efforts fell short and Nicol followed him across the finish line for second place with Armbruster after him for third. Janniro and Nicol now each have one scratch main win so far this season.
Armbruster had a great night finishing third in scratch main event and picking up his first main event win of the season in the handicap program. Riding off the zero line Armbruster had a perfect night in the handicap program with wins in his heat, semi-final and then the main. Looks like Armbruster might be looking to start on the 10-yard line next week. Brady Landon, having another great night in Division I, was second off the 20-yard line, and Russell Green also off the 20-yard line was third.
Catherine Moore continued her winning ways with a repeat of her win last week in the D2 Support Division. Moore, riding so smooth starting on the 30-yard line she worked her way through lower yardage traffic to take the lead and led it all the way to the finish line. Moore was also perfect in her division winning all her races including the main event. John Gauthreaux was second and Ray Holt Jr. was third. Newcomer to Fast Friday’s, Sean McAndrew won the D3 Support Division main event. The win was his first of the season after finishing second in last weeks main event. Cody Baugh was second and John Kederka was third.
Westley Rearick picked up a first place main event win in the Youth 250cc D1 main event. Jameson Hutchinson who won the main event last week was on his way to another win when in the last turn of the last lap fell opening the door for Rearick to take the lead and the win. It was Rearick’s first main event win of the season. Brother Riley Rearick followed him to the finish line for second place and Caden Cavrikas was third. Tough break for Hutchinson. Justin Gist won the Youth 250cc D2 division main event, Colton Cooper was second and Leeann Emerson was third.
After finishing second in the Youth 150cc D1 main event last week Mason Howell took advantage of a break to pick-up his first main event win of the season. Liam Falcon who was leading in the main event took a tumble in the last lap opening the door for Howell to take the lead and the win. Brady Wills was second and Logan Kerr was third.
Hank Hanaway topped the Youth 150cc D2 main event, Chance Farrow was second and Gavin Evans-Seeley was third. Kaiden Boyd-Bews came out on top in the Youth 150cc D3 main event, William Bruce was second and Kaydence Craw was third.
