Fast Friday’s Motorcycle Speedway

Michael Kirby Story and Photos
The 2025 Fast Friday’s Motorcycle Speedway season seems to be rushing by like a speedway bike out of the starting gate. Already in week 12 of the season the racing is as exciting as ever. Again the tricky dirt oval racetrack in the Gold Country Fairgrounds was filled with excited race fans for round five of the Team Challenge.
The Team Challenge is a six round team racing event including a championship round event that runs through-out the season between the Team Law Tigers and Team IFC (Integrated Financial Concepts). The first two rounds ended in ties and settled at 18-18 going into round three. In round three the Law Tigers pulled ahead by two points leaving the score at 28-26. In round four the score again tied 9-9 and the score was 37-35 with the Law Tigers leading the challenge coming into Friday night’s meeting.
The Law Tigers broke it open in round five scoring eleven points behind first place finishes by Billy Janniro, Timmy Dion and Gregory Moore for three points each. Cody Aker and Catherine Moore chipped in one apiece for two third place finishes making the eleven points. IFC was unable to score any first place finishes but had three second place finishes by Broc Nicol, Anthony Dion and Rees Todd for six points. Darren Armbruster scored one more for his third place finish making seven points for IFC. The final score was 11-7 for round five and a total of 48-42 with the Law Tigers leading the series.
Being six points down Team IFC could elect to use the Joker rule which allows a team down six points or more to substitute a rider anywhere on their lineup to race with double points scored when the championship round resumes on August 8. That means a substitute rider using the Joker could pick-up six points for his or her team with a win. This could play heavily on the outcome of the Team Challenge Championship. No matter what happens on August 8 the racing should be fantastic with the outcome of the challenge hanging in the balance. Sure to be a great night of racing.
Broc Nicol again earned the title of the “Fastest Man of the Night,” winning the scratch main event. Nicol picked up his sixth scratch main event victory for the season, more than any other rider this season. Close behind him is Billy Janniro with four scratch main event wins and Alex Martin who has raced just once this season at Fast Fridays and won the scratch main event.
Nicol won his first heat race, was second to Timmy Dion in his semi-final and then transferred to the main event for the win. The win did not come easy and the event was restarted twice for crashes that involved Janniro and Danny Faria who tangled in nearly the same spot in both mishaps. Referee Steve Lucero restarted the race both time with no penalties for either rider.
When the night’s finale got under way. Nicol out of lane three got the best gate and took the lead ahead of Janniro who stated in lane two. Following close behind was Dion who started in gate four and Faria from gate one. This time Faria and Janniro avoided another crash and the race was on. Nicol had the hole shot and a slim lead. Janniro was there though just behind him a little higher on the track. In lap two Nicol was slowly increasing his lead, Janniro swung a little wide and went higher on the track leaving a small space for Dion to slip through and he took over second. Nicol put more space in front of the others for the last two laps and took the win. Dion was second, Faria third and Janniro fourth.
Janniro would not be left out of the fun on the winners podium though and picked up a handicap main event win in the handicap program, his first handicap main event win of the season. Janniro was perfect in the program winning all his handicap races including the main event.
The handicap main event was also marred by a crash involving Greg Moore who fell and Dan Faria who had to lay his bike down to avoid hitting Moore. A quick restart and the race was on again With Rees Todd in the lead. Janniro working the track outside of Todd worked his way to second place from the 30 yard line where he is handicapped to. Slowly gaining ground on Todd, Janniro passed him and moved to first place for the finish. Todd was second and Dion was third.
Sammy Tetrault in only his second time this season racing at Fast Fridays won the support main event. Tetrault racing off the 30-yard line was also perfect in his division winning his heat, semi-final and the main event. Catherine Moore was second and Cody Aker was third. Look for Tetrault to be finding new dirt to start from in division one soon.
In the Youth 150cc D1 division Liam Falcon came out on top in the main event. After a third and second place finishes in his heat races Falcon won the main event. A crash in the main event took Brady Wills out of the race and in the restart Falcon led and took the checkered flag by a wide margin. Logan Kerr was second and Mason Howell was third.
Leeann Emerson, a consistent top three finisher in Youth 150cc D2 program got her second main event win in exciting fashion. Chasing Gavin Evans Seeley for most of the main event closely in second place, Emerson pulled off a gutsy move in the last turn coming inside to power past Seeley just before the finish line for the win. Seeley was second and Hank Hanaway was third.
Ryder Faria, who is picking up tips from his father division one racer Danny Faria, won his second main event in the Youth 150cc D3 main event. Faria got a real good gate in the main and held the lead all the way from the finish. William Bruce was second and Chance Farrow was third.
Seemingly unbeatable, Brady Landon picked up another win in the Youth 250cc D1 main event. Winning all his races including the main event Landon had a flawless night. Landon has yet to lose Youth 250cc D1 main event this season. Jameson Hutchinson was second and Riley Redbrick was third.
Justin Gist won his first Youth 250cc D2 main event win of the season. Baylee Evans Seeley was second place.
Hang onto your hats, next week August 1 the Extreme Sidecars roll into Fast Fridays for the fourth round of their series. These racers and their special brand of speedway racing has to be seen to be believed. On 1000cc three wheeled bikes a driver and passenger hanging on the side it is pure adrenaline. Fast Friday’s is “The place to be on Friday nights.”
